Stowe signs up as a Disability Confident Committed Employer

Earlier this year, our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging working group discussed, amongst other topics, a desire for us to look at ways we can be more inclusive for anyone at Stowe or anyone who may want to join us who lives with a disability.

We are pleased to share that as of May 2024, Stowe is signed up as a Disability Confident Committed employer.

Disability Confident is a UK government initiative that encourages employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve their recruitment, retention, and development of disabled people.

By becoming a Disability Confident Committed employer, we share our dedication to a series of actions and activities that enable more disabled people to access and thrive in the workplace.

This includes:

  • Reviewing our recruitment processes
  • Anticipating and supporting any reasonable adjustments
  • Supporting existing colleagues who acquire a disability or long-term health condition

You can learn more about the Disability Confident Scheme here on the Gov.UK website

Did you know?

Someone is disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if they have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

Next steps and Safe Working Assessment

Some actions our employee committees have already identified that we will be working on include:

  • Providing clear accessibility information for all our offices.  This involves working very closely with our facilities team, this will help individuals know what is available (e.g. lifts, toilets)
  • Continue to provide support and open-up the conversation around mental health
  • Introduce a safe working assessment process for new and existing employees to identify any reasonable adjustments that may be needed
  • Continue to collect diversity data and use this to help us understand our people and identify where we need to do more
